Learning in Class 3 Autumn Term 2018
Miss M. Cleaver will be teaching Monday - Friday
Mrs E. Nugent will be teaching Thursday and Friday afternoon
Our topic this term is pirates. We would be very grateful for any donations of cardboard boxes, shoe boxes, kitchen roll tubes and old wrapping paper to help us get creative with our topic.
During Autumn Term 2018, Class 3 will be learning about the following:
We cover a wide range of narrative and non-fiction genres this term. Our literacy work will be related to our topic pirates. We will be writing diary entries in the life of a pirate, creating a message in a bottle and writing adventure stories. Additionally, we will be researching life as a pirate and famous pirates in order to create a non-fiction fact file. Also we will be writing instructions about how to become a pirate!
We will be focusing on place value this term (hundreds, tens and ones) by using practical resources. The children will be looking at writing their numbers in numerals and words. There will be a big focus on children learning and recalling their times tables. Towards the end of the term we will also be looking at addition and subtraction methods.
History and geography
Our topic this term is pirates. The children will explore these objectives through hands on activities and research. We will start by gaining an understanding of who pirates were and locating them in our history timeline. Next we will be able to find where pirates were located on the map. We will also be researching how pirates have changed over time.
Design and Technology
Will be linked to our topic of pirates. Mrs Nugent will be the lead teacher of this subject area.
Our topic for this term is Materials. The children will be exploring a variety of different materials to discover what they are made from and recognising similarities and differences between materials. They will also be investigating the suitability of different materials. This will be linked with our topic and the children will be designing their own pirate ships and choosing the best materials for their ship to be made out of. Additionally we will be exploring recycling, understanding the process and which materials can be recycled.
This term we will be exploring what Christians believe God is like by exploring the story of Jonah.
This term class three will be taught ukulele by Mrs Giles.
The children will be taught P.E on a Monday afternoon and a Thursday afternoon. On a Monday the children will be taught football and on a Thursday netball. Please ensure that your child brings their P.E kit to school on a Monday and leaves it in school till Friday.
We will be looking at new beginnings.
We will be using and enhancing our ICT skills to support our work across the curriculum. We will be looking at how to present our information in Microsoft PowerPoint and learning how to save our work.
This half term the children in year 2 will be attending forest school with Mrs DeHaro. The forest school sessions will be on a Friday morning starting on the 14th September. The children will need to come to school in their forest school clothes and school shoes. They will be required to bring their school uniform and wellies in so they can get changed.
Spellings will be set for homework each week. Children will receive a list in their home-link diary on a Friday to learn for a test on the following Friday. Your child will also be given a bonus spelling as part of the test each week, that they have not been given to learn, as this will help us to see if they can apply the spelling rule to an unknown word.
The children will have a times tables test each day. The children are aware of the times tables that they are learning. Any support that can be given at home will help with your child learning their times tables.
Weekly homework tasks for children in class 3 include, learning and rehearsing their times tables and reading (three times per week recorded and signed by an adult in home-link diaries) please. Please ensure that your child has their home-link diary with them in school each day.
If you do possess skills, knowledge or resources which you feel you may like to offer in support of our teaching and learning this term, please do let us know!
